RPL Information and Credit Transfer
Can you apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – What You Need to Know
RPL is not a shortcut. It is a formal process to recognise your existing skills and knowledge. You must provide valid, current, and sufficient evidence to prove your competence. It does not stop the need for completing reports/forms, knowledge assessment questions.
Mandatory RPL Induction
All learners must watch an RPL induction video before starting RPL.
The video explains the RPL process, assessment methods, evidence requirements, and your responsibilities.
Evidence Requirements
Axiom Compliance Learning will determine what evidence is required.
Evidence may include:
Workplace documents, portfolios, or third-party reports
CV or resume outlining your relevant experience (you will be provided a checklist to guide what information to include)
Competency conversations or interviews
RPL tasks designed to show your skills and knowledge
Online Knowledge Assessment questions
Practical demonstrations or skills observations by a qualified assessor
Workplace tasks or challenge assessments
In accordance with the Standards for RTOs:
Only evidence that directly demonstrates competence for the specific unit can be accepted. Evidence from other qualifications, similar subjects, or unrelated training packages cannot be used alone.
Only evidence from the last two (2-3) years will generally be accepted. Older evidence must be supported by proof of ongoing competency.
Important Notes
RPL is a thorough, evidence-based process. General experience alone is not sufficient. All evidence is assessed against unit requirements and industry standards.
If evidence is insufficient, additional training or assessments may be required, and additional fees could apply.
Successful RPL earns a Statement of Attainment, formally recognising your competence.
Remember: Be prepared — Axiom will select the evidence you must provide, including a CV guided by our checklist.
Axiom Compliance always recommends face-to-face training over RPL, as it provides valuable opportunities to develop new skills and gain up-to-date industry knowledge
CREDIT TRANSFER
What is Credit Transfer
A Credit Transfer is the recognition of a unit of competency that a student has already successfully completed with another RTO. Where the unit is equivalent, the student is granted credit and is not required to repeat the unit.
Getting credit for a student’s existing skills (Credit Transfer)
Axiom Compliance Learning recognises qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other registered training organisations (RTOs). This applies to units of competency that form part of the national training framework and are clearly listed on an official Statement of Attainment or Qualification.
If a unit has already been completed, the student may be granted a Credit Transfer and will not be required to complete that unit again.
Evidence requirements
To apply for a Credit Transfer, students must provide a copy of their Statement of Attainment or Qualification. Axiom Compliance Learning will verify these documents to confirm they were issued by an Australian RTO.
The documents must clearly identify the units of competency completed and be issued in a format consistent with the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) requirements.
Credit Transfer guidelines
The following guidelines are followed concerning credit transfers:
- Any student is entitled to apply for credit transfer in a course or Qualification they are currently enrolled.
- Students may not apply for credit transfer for units of competence or qualifications not included in Axiom Compliance Learning's registration scope.
- Students may apply for credit transfer at any time, and they are encouraged to apply before commencing a training program. Reducing unnecessary training and guiding the student down a more efficient path to competence.
-The student does not incur any credit transfer fees, and Axiom Compliance Learning does not receive any funding when a credit transfer is granted.
- Credit transfer is only awarded for whole units of competence. A mapping guide identifies a partial credit; this is not considered for credit transfer, and applicants will be advised to seek recognition.
-CT application information needs to be provided at enrolment time CT cannot be granted until we have received authentication from the previous training provider
